The Blues Came to Town!

On August 23, the North Fork Arts Center reached an exciting milestone with our very first blues concert. Presented by veteran bassist and producer Mike Griot, the evening brought some of New York City’s finest talent to Greenport — and our intimate theater proved to be the perfect setting for a sold-out night of unforgettable music.

The show opened with the New Moon Acoustic Blues Duo, who channeled the raw spirit of Delta and Piedmont blues. Their stirring set featured what many in the audience called an “extraordinary harmonica player,” and it reminded us how powerful acoustic music can be in a room built for listening.

Then came the headliner, BLUES People, whose unstoppable energy had the entire theater buzzing. Winners of the North Jersey Blues Society International Blues Challenge and semifinalists in Memphis, BLUES People brought the kind of world-class performance that made one attendee say: “I loved driving 10 minutes to a world-class event.”

From the start, the night had the feel of something special. Guests described the music as “fantastic,” “intimate,” and “unlike anything else happening locally.” For some, it was about the ease of staying close to home while experiencing music of this caliber; for others, it was simply about being part of a full house of neighbors soaking up the Blues together.

We know words can’t capture it all — which is why we’re especially grateful to our staff photographer Rob Lehmann, who documented the evening in striking detail. His images showcase not just the musicianship on stage, but the energy in the room, the connection between performers and audience, and the milestone moment for NFAC as we expand into live music programming.

None of this would have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors: Sapan Studios, Charles Simon, Rocket Your Potential, and Menhaden. As a nonprofit arts center, NFAC depends on community partnerships and philanthropic support to make programming like this possible. Sponsors, members, and donors together help us keep ticket prices accessible while still bringing top-tier talent to our stage.

Blues Night was a first for NFAC, but thanks to the overwhelming response, it won’t be the last. Many of you have already asked for more concerts — acoustic sets, residencies, and new genres — and we’re excited to continue building on this momentum.

Thank you for being part of this milestone, and thank you for believing in the power of the arts to strengthen our community. Enjoy these highlights from Blues Night, and stay tuned for the next chapter.
