Greenport’s Annual Juneteenth Parade and Celebration Will Take Place on June 28, 2025

This year’s focus is on the youth in our communities “Having Their Say: What Freedom, Equality and Justice Means to Them.”

The evening begins with a screening of "Bunny," the 1998 Oscar-winning animated short written and directed by our special guest, Chris Wedge. Following this classic, enjoy this year's complete collection of Oscar-nominated animated shorts. After the screenings, join us for an intimate Film Club discussion with NFAC Board member and Oscar-winning animator Chris Wedge (creator of "Ice Age," "Robots," and "Bunny"). Chris will share insights on animation craftsmanship, the Academy Awards®, and the unique storytelling power of short films.

The North Fork Arts Center is honored to welcome historians Jennifer L. Morgan and Donnamarie Barnes for a thought-provoking discussion on their work, The Daughters of Judah: A Multigenerational Story of Slavery and Freedom on the East End. Jennifer L. Morgan (an award-winning author, a 2024 MacArthur Fellow and a professor at New York University) and Donnamarie Barnes (Director of History & Heritage at Sylvester Manor) bring their extensive expertise to uncover the hidden narratives of African American families on Long Island.

Join North Fork Arts Center and Coming to the Table North Fork for a special Black History Month screening of "Selma," Ava DuVernay's powerful film chronicling Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s historic 1965 voting rights campaign. Following the film, community leaders Councilman Brian O. Mealy, Village Clerk Candace Hall, and Greenport Student Council President Faith Welch will help lead a thoughtful discussion about this pivotal moment in civil rights history.

ART OPENING

Join us for the opening of Brooklyn artist Ajamu Kojo’s solo show on view February 8 - March 10, 2025. The exhibition showcases portraits celebrating Black excellence in American history, featuring the notable "A Portrait of George Washington and His Slaves," which previously debuted at the 2024 Delta Triennial. Kojo employs the Mischtechnik to create compelling narratives that challenge traditional perspectives on American greatness.

LECTURE

The North Fork Arts Center and Coming to the Table welcome Tamara Lanier for an exclusive presentation of her memoir, From These Roots: My Fight With Harvard to Reclaim My Legacy. Join us for a reading followed by a conversation with Lanier and local journalist, Liz Welch who worked with Lanier on this stunning story.

A signing will follow, and books will be available for purchase through Burton's Books.
