The Guy Who Got Cut Wrong + Q&A

Join us at the North Fork Arts Center for a special screening of The Guy Who Got Cut Wrong, followed by a live conversation with award-winning novelist Gary Shteyngart and filmmaker Dana Ben-Ari.

At once funny, tender, and provocative, Ben-Ari’s documentary invites audiences into Shteyngart’s singular tragicomic world as he revisits the trauma of his botched circumcision. With warmth and candor, the film explores family, masculinity, cultural expectation, and the immigrant experience, challenging assumptions about our bodies and our identities.

The evening also celebrates Shteyngart’s literary work, including his most recent novel Vera, or Faith, a poignant, sharp-eyed tale of family bonds under pressure in a rapidly changing America. Together, book and film reveal Shteyngart’s remarkable ability to write — and live — in multiple emotional registers, from sharp-edged humor to heartfelt tenderness.

Audiences will have the rare opportunity to engage directly with both author and director in a post-screening talkback, where they will share insights on the intersections of literature, cinema, and personal storytelling.
