CLASSICAL MUSIC
Join us for a musical voyage through 20th century Europe as six acclaimed NFAC Chamber Musicians—Robert Chausow (violin), Sarah Adams (viola), Daniel Miller (cello), Jacqueline Danilow (bass), Randall Wolfgang (oboe), and Benjamin Baron (clarinet)—come together to perform distinctive 20th-century masterworks by Britten, Dohnányi, and Prokofiev.
We begin in London with Benjamin Britten’s Phantasy for oboe and strings, a “consummately crafted” work evoking the English countryside and 16th century folk style. From there, we travel to Budapest for Ernst von Dohnányi’s Serenade for String Trio, full of musical richness and earthy Hungarian folksiness. Our itinerary concludes in 1924 Russia with Sergei Prokofiev’s Quintet for oboe, clarinet, violin, viola and double bass, commissioned as a ballet while Prokofiev was an expat living in Paris. The music is adventurous and circus-like, full of evocative textures and clashing harmonies.
Experience the brilliance of these composers in a setting that invites you to escape the cold, listen deeply, and discover the unexpected beauty of this remarkable repertoire.
