A Night of Greek Cinema & Music
On August 29, NFAC partnered with the Hellenic Film Society USA to present STELIOS (2024), a striking Greek drama that explored themes of identity, resilience, and the personal cost of freedom.

Some guests began the evening with a special dinner at Hellenic restaurant before gathering in our historic theater for the one-night-only screening. Many audience members shared how meaningful it was to watch a Greek-language film on the North Fork, with one guest calling it “nostalgic” and another saying, “As a fellow Greek American, it hit home.”

The film captivated the audience with its powerful story and visual clarity. Several attendees said the movie itself was the highlight, while others especially appreciated the immersive Q&A and live performance that followed.

After the credits rolled, musician Mavrothi Kontanis took the stage to perform music inspired by legendary Greek composer Stelios Kazantzidis. Interwoven with conversation, his performance deepened the experience by connecting the film’s themes to the rich tradition of Greek music. Many remarked on the beauty of this pairing, with one survey response noting: “Great movie and a perfect musician after the movie.”
