A Residency That Danced Across the North Fork: Brooklyn Ballet at NFAC
There’s something special about the moment when artists and audiences come together after a performance, when the lights come up, the applause fades, and the conversation begins. That’s exactly what we captured in this gallery of photos from Brooklyn Ballet’s final evening at NFAC on Saturday, May 17.
This performance marked the end of their three-week residency with us. The residency, made possible by a generous grant from the New York State Council on the Arts, was a perfect reflection of where Brooklyn Ballet’s mission and NFAC’s values meet: at the intersection of world-class performance and meaningful arts education.
After delivering the showing of Night / Life, the dancers remained on stage as it transformed into a space for connection, reflection, and community dialogue. Artistic Director Lynn Parkerson, dancer and educator Tristan, and members of the company shared what it meant to create in Greenport, and how deeply they believe in arts education as a tool for empowerment. Tristan’s words about working with students, meeting them where they are, and showing them what’s possible through movement, left a lasting impression.
We also caught a few moments in the lobby afterward: dancers grabbing a bite from Olive Branch across the street, neighbors reconnecting, students glowing with inspiration. These are the kinds of in-between moments that stay with you.
This residency was more than a performance! It was a living example of how art brings community together. We’re proud to have hosted Brooklyn Ballet at NFAC and to celebrate our one-year anniversary with this unforgettable collaboration.
