GREENPORT, NY, November 3, 2026 — North Fork Arts Center welcomes Brooklyn Ballet to The Sapan Greenport Theater on Saturday, December 5, 2026, for two performances of The Brooklyn Nutcracker Sweet!, a special abridged presentation of the company’s beloved holiday production. With performances at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., the festive program brings the magic of Tchaikovsky’s classic to the North Fork as part of a day of holiday celebrations in Greenport.

Inspired by the borough’s rich cultural diversity and creative spirit, The Brooklyn Nutcracker Sweet! blends classical ballet with contemporary movement and dance traditions from around the world. Adapted from Brooklyn Ballet’s acclaimed The Brooklyn Nutcracker, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this December, the 35-minute production invites audiences on a journey from Drosselmeyer’s magical world through the swirling Snowflake Waltz and into the Land of Sweets.

Featuring favorite moments including the Mechanical Doll, Flatbush Angels, Spanish Hot Chocolate, and the Sugar Plum Fairy, The Brooklyn Nutcracker Sweet! brings together classical ballet and street dance in an imaginative reworking of the holiday classic. Audiences will encounter Brooklyn’s own Flatbush Angels, who bring the energy of street dance to Tchaikovsky’s familiar score, alongside a new interpretation of Spanish Hot Chocolate, exploring the African and Muslim influences that helped shape Flamenco. Together, these unexpected artistic collaborations offer a fresh perspective on the beloved holiday tradition while celebrating the cultural richness and creative spirit of Brooklyn.

The holiday experience extends beyond the stage, with complimentary hot cocoa and sweet treats for attendees, followed by a 10-minute interactive ballet lesson led by members of the cast, giving children and families an opportunity to experience the joy of dance firsthand. With Greenport’s holiday parade and tree lighting taking place between performances, the afternoon and evening offer a festive addition to the village’s seasonal celebrations.

“We are so proud to expand our partnership with Brooklyn Ballet and bring a version of the Nutcracker to the North Fork Arts Center for the first time,” said Alison Omens, Executive Director of NFAC. “Greenport’s streets will be alight with holiday magic, and we’re very excited to bring this beloved holiday tradition–with a twist–to our community with a festive night of dance, community enrichment and, of course, sweet treats.”

Conceived and choreographed by Brooklyn Ballet Artistic Director Lynn Parkerson, The Brooklyn Nutcracker has become a distinctive New York City holiday tradition, reimagining Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece through the cultures, neighborhoods, and dance traditions of Brooklyn. The full-length production transports audiences from Victorian Flatbush to contemporary Brooklyn, incorporating classical ballet, street dance, and international dance traditions into a celebration of the borough’s rich cultural heritage.

“One of the things I love most about The Brooklyn Nutcracker is seeing how audiences of all ages respond to the different dance traditions we’ve brought together,” said Lynn Parkerson, Artistic Director of Brooklyn Ballet. “With The Brooklyn Nutcracker Sweet!, we’re bringing some of our favorite moments from the production to the North Fork and inviting families to experience the magic of ballet in a fun, welcoming way. And we’re especially excited to have everyone join us for a little dancing of their own after the show. You never know when a child’s first experience with ballet might spark a lifelong love of dance.”

Founded in 2002, Brooklyn Ballet is known for expanding the boundaries of classical ballet through unexpected artistic collaborations and a commitment to making dance accessible to audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Its annual The Brooklyn Nutcracker reflects that mission, bringing together artists from different disciplines and cultural traditions to create a holiday production that honors the original while introducing audiences to new forms of movement and expression.
